Colorado CachesColorado Log Caches

Even before the Colorado starts shipping in any serious quantities in the UK, Garmin have updated the firmware in these units based on user feedback. The main features added are:

  • Displays geocaches on the main screen
  • Doubles the number of caches supported to 2000
  • Adds the ability to mark the cache as found
  • Provides support for Colorado Field Notes, which can be directly uploaded to geocaching.com

Beta Testers wanted for OSM on Garmin

We’re now ready to start our beta test of our UK OSM Garmin map. If you are interested in trying and providing feedback, on both the actual map file, but also the instructions on how to load them too, then please contact us.

However, please first register in the forums, and then please email us at info@mapomatic.net with the following information;

  • Your forum username
  • Your Garmin model (or models)
  • How much internal or external memory your Garmin has
  • Whether you already have additional maps installed

We will then be in touch with you to confirm whether you are able to join the beta test.

Looking for a Symbian Series60 Geocaching client?

N95 Geocaching

Trimble, who produce both GPS hardware and have a geocaching service (with monthly fee) for selected mobile phones have launched a Series 60 client for free! It’s available here. We look forward to testing this over the next few months and hope to report back on how it performs.

Although the software is free, as is a basic subscription to Geocaching.com, this application will use a data connection, and hence maybe best suited to those with decent data plans.

Have you tried this software? Discuss it in our forums here.

OSM on Garmin Project update

A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes to automate the creation of these maps, and also the backend support to allow us to release these maps securely. We’re hoping to be able to announce a beta program for these maps in the near future to ensure there are no major problems with these maps before we start making them available. Please keep an eye on the homepage, and look out for further announcements in the forums.

Forums now available

We’ve launched our own forums to allow users and developers to discuss all aspects of this website, the products and projects we will be offering, and general chat about mapping, GPS devices, and other related activities (eg geocaching).

Join us at forums.mapomatic.net, although you will need to register a username and password to be able to join in the discussions.
